Update: Following Sarah Edwards MP's Visit to The Wilnecote School

Listen to this news story read by Adelina from Year 8

Following the recent visit of Sarah Edwards MP to The Wilnecote School, which you may have seen covered in our news section, we are delighted to provide an update on the discussions and positive outcomes from the day.

During her visit, Ms Edwards met with our Junior Leadership Team and engaged in valuable conversations about important issues, including road safety and parking concerns on Hockley Road, as well as inspiring future career opportunities for our students.  This letter  summarise the key points raised and the actions we are taking forward to benefit our school community.

Dear Mr Simpson,

Thank you once again for hosting such an insightful and engaging visit to The Wilnecote School yesterday. Both Sarah and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the fantastic work taking place—particularly your commitment to supporting SEND students and the passion you and your team show around improving road safety at the end of the school day.

I wanted to follow up on the visit and summarise a few key points, along with the actions we’d like to take forward:

  • Support and Provision for SEND Pupils & School Funding: David Foskett raised important concerns around SEND provision and wider school funding. Sarah has offered to raise these issues directly with ministers in the Department for Education. If Mr Foskett is able to outline the challenges in more detail, we would be very happy to take this forward.
  • Road Safety and Parking: We will be raising the concerns around irresponsible parking with Staffordshire County Council, particularly to clarify whether their intervention was made on the correct road. From the correspondence we’ve seen, it appears they may have focused on Tinkers Green Road, when our original request related to Hockley Road.
  • Support for Fundraising Initiatives: We were really pleased to see your Junior Leadership Team’s enthusiasm and would be happy to support their fundraising efforts – whether through helping to connect you with the right people or assisting in other practical ways.
  • Parliament Visit: My colleague Natalie is looking forward to welcoming you and the students to Parliament. It will be a great opportunity to enjoy a guided tour of the Palace of Westminster—and for the students to continue asking Sarah the brilliant questions they clearly enjoyed putting to her!
  • If you’re able to share any of the photos from the visit, we’d be grateful to have a copy so we can share some highlights on social media.

Thanks again for such a warm welcome, and we look forward to working with you further.
