High-Flying Fiction: Students Discover the Real Magic of Reading

Our students recently enjoyed a fantastic trip to the Staffordshire Libraries Young Teen Fiction Awards 2026. Held at the historic RAF Museum, the day featured inspiring author talks from A J Clack and Ross Welford, book signings, and the exciting reveal of Scott Reintgen’s The Last Dragon on Mars as the big winner.

Our students recently swapped the classroom for the historic hangars of the RAF Museum for a fantastic celebration of literature at the Staffordshire Libraries Young Teen Fiction Awards 2026. The day was packed with creative energy, starting with an insightful talk from last year’s winner, A J Clack, who shared the secrets behind her gripping thriller Lie or Die and inspired our students with her journey to becoming a writer.

The literary adventure continued with a vibrant session from author Ross Welford, who combined storytelling with live magic tricks. The students were completely gripped by his performance, eagerly asking questions about his books and inspiration before heading over to the bookshop to buy new titles and get them personally signed.

The absolute highlight of the trip was the live announcement of the Young Teen Fiction 2026 winner. The Last Dragon on Mars by Scott Reintgen took home the top prize, sparking huge cheers from our group as the novel is already a fast-growing favourite in our own school library.

Miss Wain, our School Librarian and the trip organiser, mentioned after the event that it was wonderful to watch the students interact so passionately with the authors, proving that a love for reading is thriving within our friendly school family where everyone supports one another.
