The Wilnecote School’s Year 7 and Year 8 netball teams took to the court this week for highly anticipated fixtures against local rivals, Rawlett School, with the younger squads delivering a mix of triumphant victory and valuable learning experience.
The evening was a massive success for the Year 8 squad, who secured a decisive 10-5 victory against Rawlett, demonstrating impressive teamwork and clinical finishing. Meanwhile, the Year 7 team showed huge potential and resilience in their first competitive outing of the season.

Year 8 Dominate with Clinical Performance
The Year 8 match was a brilliant display of Wilnecote’s growing strength in the sport. From the opening whistle, the girls maintained control of the game, executing swift passes and applying relentless defensive pressure that limited Rawlett’s scoring opportunities.
Their cohesion was evident across the court, culminating in a well-deserved 10-5 final score. The standout player was Beatrix, whose exceptional energy and skill earned her the coveted Player of the Match award. Beatrix’s leadership and strong performance were key in driving the team to victory.

Year 7 Show Resilience and Improvement
For the Year 7 team, this fixture against Rawlett marked their first game as a competitive unit. They faced a more experienced side, which ultimately secured the win, but the Wilnecote players demonstrated fantastic determination and improvement throughout the four quarters.
Despite the result, the team never gave up, adapting quickly to the pace of the game and showing rapid development in their positioning and communication. Laila was a beacon of energy and effort on the court, and her relentless play was recognised by the coaches, who named her the Year 7 Player of the Match.
“We are incredibly proud of both teams,” commented Mrs Abbott, PE Teacher and Head Coach. “The Year 8 girls showed what they can achieve when they work together, and the Year 7 squad took on a tough first challenge and improved dramatically. Fixtures like this are vital for building confidence, and we look forward to seeing the Year 7 players continue their development in the coming weeks.”
The future looks bright for netball at The Wilnecote School, with both squads showing excellent commitment and sporting spirit.
