Careers, Connections and Creatures: A Careers Day to Remember at Wilnecote

This year’s annual Careers Day at The Wilnecote School was our biggest ever and it was a huge success.

With over 60 companies, organisations, and education providers attending, students across Years 8 to 11 were given a fantastic opportunity to explore the world of work, education, and future possibilities.

Our students had a lovely chat with the British Insurance Brokers’ Association.

From Jaguar Land Rover and Softcat to the Army, the Royal Navy and Coventry University, our students had access to a wide variety of industries, training routes, and expert advice — all in one place.

Unlike many careers events which focus only on Year 11 students, Wilnecote’s Careers Day was open to all upper year groups.

From Year 8 upwards, students were encouraged to ask questions, gather insight, and begin thinking about what the future might hold for them.

Former student Sam Hinckley explains his experiences after leaving Wilnecote 5 years ago.

“I think it’s a great turnout. As a former student, I never had the chance to do anything like this, and I think it’s brilliant.”

“Yeah, we’ve had a lot of students turn up. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do when I left school, so I’m just trying to offer a bit of guidance and share my experiences, what it’s been like since leaving, and hopefully help them out a bit.”

With representatives from universities, sixth forms, apprenticeship providers, colleges, the civil service, volunteering organisations, and professionals from fields like architecture and engineering, there was something for everyone.

Whether students wanted to speak to someone in the job they dream of doing, or simply explore what’s out there.

The event was designed to help each student take their next step — whatever that might be.

We also made sure to provide a chance for students to build connections and learn about industries they might never have considered.

“Our aim is to inspire students to consider a future career with JLR. Key qualities like punctuality and attendance are fundamental — they can be the difference between securing a job or missing out. Personally, my goal today is to get students thinking about JLR, even if they don’t realise it yet.”

That’s why it’s great that schools like Wilnecote to have these events for their students.”

Look away! One of our brave students handles one of the stars of the show, the Royal Python.

For some, the highlight wasn’t a college prospectus or the free stuff, it was our special visitors: a Royal Python, two African Land Snails, and a few Stick Insects!

Students enjoyed getting up close to the animals and hearing from professionals in environmental and animal-based careers.

One of the many activities keeping students engaged when talking to businesses.

I’d like to thank all of the companies, educators and staff for giving their time for our careers day this year, it has been a great success.

Wilnecote School continues to put students first — and Careers Day is just one of the ways we support our learners in preparing for their futures.
