The Wilnecote School’s Year 7  netball teams displayed exceptional skill and determination at the recent Tamworth district netball tournament, held on their home ground. Facing competition from five schools and eight teams in total, the Wilnecote Greens team delivered a stellar performance, topping their pool with an impressive undefeated run.

The Greens, showcasing excellent teamwork and precision passing, dominated their pool matches, securing victory after victory. Their solid defence and sharp shooting proved too much for their opponents, creating a buzz amongst spectators and fellow competitors alike, all on the home court of The Wilnecote School.

However, the final match proved a nail-biting affair. After a hard-fought contest, the Wilnecote Greens narrowly missed out on the tournament title, losing by a single, heart-breaking point. Despite the close defeat, the team’s performance was a testament to their dedication and hard work throughout the season.

Mrs Abbott, the Netball coach and PE Teacher at The Wilnecote School, praised her team’s efforts. “I am incredibly proud of the girls. They played with such passion and skill. To go undefeated in their pool is a fantastic achievement, especially on our own courts. The final was incredibly close, and while we’re disappointed to have missed out on the win, they showed real resilience and sportsmanship. They have worked so hard all season, and this tournament was a great reflection of that.”

Miss Dickins, Head of PE, echoed Mrs Abbott’s sentiments, adding, “The performance of the Wilnecote teams at the Tamworth tournament, hosted here at The Wilnecote School, was outstanding. It was a privilege to watch them demonstrate such a high level of play. The determination and teamwork displayed by all the girls was truly inspiring. This is a real credit to the students and Mrs Abbott’s coaching. We are very proud of them.”

The Wilnecote School netball teams have consistently shown their commitment to the sport, and this tournament result further highlights their growing strength within the district. The school looks forward to continuing to support the teams in their future endeavours.
