Wilnecote Year 8 Rugby Team Clinches District Victory

Wilnecote School’s Year 8 rugby team enjoyed a day of triumph at a the 7-aside district tournament, securing impressive wins against both Rawlett and QEMS. This marked the first rugby outing of the year for the enthusiastic young players, who rose to the occasion with skill and determination.

The team showcased their attacking prowess throughout the tournament, with George H, Theo B, and Martin J all contributing crucial tries. George H was a standout performer, scoring a remarkable five tries across the two games, earning him the well-deserved title of Man of the Match.

Martin J, captaining the team, demonstrated exceptional leadership and tactical acumen, effectively organizing his teammates on the field. His calm and decisive presence played a vital role in guiding Wilnecote to victory.

The victorious team comprised: Martin J, Kyen B, George H, Finaly H, Alfie B, Theo B, Issac H, Theo E, Rojus K, and Jack F. Each player contributed to the team’s success, displaying a strong sense of unity and commitment.

“I’m incredibly proud of the boys’ performance,” said boys PE teacher and coach Mr Doyle. “For a one-off tournament, they played with real passion and skill, and their teamwork was outstanding. Martin’s leadership and George’s try-scoring ability were particularly impressive, but every single player played their part. It was a great day for Wilnecote rugby.”

The team’s success at the district finals provides a memorable highlight for the Year 8 players, showcasing their talent and potential on the rugby field.
