Wilnecote School Readathon Smashes Target
Listen to this news story read by Adelina from Year 9
We are thrilled to share the fantastic success of The Wilnecote School’s first-ever Readathon. Our students truly made history, not only by embracing this new initiative but by absolutely exceeding all expectations!
The goal of the Readathon was twofold: to encourage our pupils to set and achieve personal reading goals, and to raise money so that children in hospitals have access to books.
We are delighted to announce that our dedicated readers smashed their fundraising goal of £300!
The funds raised will go directly to a charity that provides books and resources for young patients in hospital, offering comfort, distraction, and the magic of stories during their recovery.
Miss Wain, our School Librarian and the organiser of this event, praised the efforts of every student:
“Launching our very first Readathon has been a huge success, and to see our students not only engage so passionately with their books but also surpass our £300 fundraising goal in this inaugural year is just wonderful,” said Miss Wain. “Their efforts have translated directly into making a real difference for children in hospitals. Every single student who took part should be incredibly proud of this collective achievement. It’s a true testament to their generosity and love of reading, and we look forward to making this an annual tradition.”
A massive well done to our prize winners: Elsie C, Oliver C, Aidan R, and Blake T!
These four students led the charge, raising a whopping total of £232 between them. It was so lovely to see an amazing culture of reading flourish within the school, and these students helped with that massively.
A huge thank you and well done to everyone involved for establishing such a positive and generous new tradition at The Wilnecote School!
