GCSE Drama Students Find Inspiration in Contemporary 'Teechers' Production
On Tuesday 3rd February, GCSE Drama students from The Wilnecote School swapped the classroom for the auditorium with a visit to the New Vic Theatre. The trip provided a vital opportunity for students to witness a professional staging of John Godber’s classic play, Teechers, bringing their theoretical studies to life.
Although the play was originally written in the 1980s, this particular production was updated with contemporary references to ensure it remained relevant and sharp for a modern audience. The performance made extensive use of physical theatre, modern music, and relatable social commentary, making it an incredibly entertaining experience for the group.
This visit was more than just a trip to the theatre; it serves as a cornerstone for the students’ upcoming academic assessments. Having seen the play’s themes and techniques performed live, students will now use the production as a primary case study for the written evaluation section of their GCSE Drama exams. By analysing the creative choices made on stage, from the energetic movement to the modernised script, the students are now well-prepared to excel in their formal evaluations.
