The Wilnecote School Swims to Victory Again at the Key Stage 3 District Gala

Students from Years 7, 8, and 9 competed in a full range of swimming strokes to become District Champions. Team manager Amelia led both the girls’ and boys’ squads with confidence, insisting on high levels of determination and grit.

Of the 24 individual stroke events, The Wilnecote School team won 13, breaking records in 3 events. The record breakers were:

  • Butterfly: Eliza P – 13.10 seconds (held since 2019)
  • Butterfly: Zuzanna R – 17.82 seconds (held since 2019)
  • Breaststroke: Eliza P – 32.28 Seconds (held since 2022)

The relay phase of the championship saw Wilnecote winning all but one relay event, where they came second.

In the final event, the squadron relay, the best two swimmers in each year group are selected to swim a two-length freestyle relay. This event is the showpiece and ends the gala with the best of the best, showcasing their swimming prowess. The noise is incredible, from the sound of the swimmers speeding through the water to the cheering of the supporters on the side. It truly is an exciting but deafening way to round off the competition. The Wilnecote School smashed this event, finishing almost two lengths ahead of their nearest rivals. An outstanding achievement by a superb group of swimmers and a great team manager.

The final standings saw The Wilnecote School crowned District Champions once again, achieving 91 points, 14 points ahead of the runners-up with 77 points.

Well done to all swimmers involved; you were amazing and fully deserve the title of champions!
