Wilnecote School’s Year 7 students embarked on an out-of-this-world adventure, as a touring planetarium, the “Stardome,” transformed their enrichment day into an unforgettable cosmic journey.

All Year 7s were treated to a truly unique experience inside the inflatable dome, which combines the fun of a bouncy castle with the immersive visuals of a cinema. In collaboration with Higher Horizons and the University of Staffordshire, this special event aimed to provide a fresh perspective on learning outside the traditional classroom setting.

After an initial safety briefing, students settled in for a captivating 27-minute presentation, narrated by none other than Rupert Grint! They were shown either “We Are Stars” or “We Are Aliens,” diving deep into fascinating subjects like the search for extra-terrestrial life, the origins of the universe, and the intricate connections between our world, its people, and ecosystems.

The Stardome experience wasn’t just about entertainment; it was designed to inspire. Students learned why we continue to explore space, the diverse jobs people are doing in the field, and the incredible information we hope to uncover.

Miss Ager, Assistant Headteacher and organiser of the event, shared her delight at the day’s success.

“It was wonderful to see all of our Year 7 students engage so enthusiastically with the Stardome,” she commented. “The whole day was about providing them with a different, hands-on learning experience that truly broadened their horizons. Watching them captivated by the presentations and discussing the wonders of space afterwards was incredibly rewarding. It really did help to grow their ambition and sense of wonder.”

This sentiment was echoed by Jemma from Higher Horizons, who was highly impressed.

“The behaviour of your students is the best I have witnessed this academic year in all the schools I have been to,”

she remarked, a testament to the Wilnecote Year 7s’ exemplary conduct.

Such was the success of this stellar event that Wilnecote School hopes to make the Stardome visit an annual tradition for every new cohort of Year 7 students, ensuring future generations also get the chance to reach for the stars.
