Over two exciting days, students in Year 7 and Year 8 at The Wilnecote School took part in a RISE Workshop aimed at preparing them for the future world of work. Year 7 attended on Monday, and Year 8 took part in the workshop on Tuesday.
The event focused on helping students understand the skills that are vital in the modern workplace, while linking their school learning to real-world situations. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to see how the subjects they study now will support them in future careers.
Throughout the workshop, students engaged in a range of scenarios and challenges designed to build teamwork, leadership, and communication. Activities included group debates about artificial intelligence in the workplace, product matching tasks, and decisions such as whether to open a new office in Liverpool or Bristol. Students also explored the pros and cons of working from home, developing critical thinking and discussion skills along the way.

Each group was assigned rotating roles—such as chairman, speaker, and scribe—ensuring that everyone played a key part in the discussions and decision-making.
There was also time for students to complete a self-reflection on their personal strengths, considering skills such as time management, creativity, teamwork, listening, and leadership. This allowed them to begin thinking about their future pathways and how they can grow as individuals.
The event also gave students the chance to build links with employers and experience a more practical, applied way of learning.
Speaking about the day, Lindsay from the RISE team said, “This has been a fantastic workshop for the school, and it’s been brilliant to visit a place where students are so engaged and eager to learn. Their behaviour has been excellent throughout.”
At The Wilnecote School, we believe in helping our students learn in new and engaging ways, and the RISE Workshop is just one of the many ways we take learning beyond the classroom.
