On Thursday 9th November, a group of Year 10 and Year 11 German students, accompanied by Mrs. Whiffin, took part in the Goethe Institute German careers roadshow. The event was based in the University of Warwick’s Faculty of Arts building and was hosted by the University’s German department. Students were able to select from a range of workshops and talks ranging from “Studying languages and where it can take you”, “Finding a career to suit you”, “Why learn German”, “German in the world of work” and “A career in travel and tourism” to name but a few.

Afterwards and before heading back to school, we had a guided tour of the campus by one of the undergraduate students. It has changed rather a lot since Mrs. Whiffin studied here.

This is what our students had to say:

“It really helped me to see my future options and how useful a language is for work”

“It was great opportunity to see what a campus university is like”

“It was a very exciting experience in which I learned a lot about how learning German can benefit me. My favourite talk was the one which told me about the benefits of studying in Germany and how that could help me in the future. I am thinking about applying for Warwick in the future.”

“I really enjoyed the campus and how large it is. I didn’t expect there to be so many facilities and I was really impressed. I really loved the German talks and the chance to have new learning opportunities.”

“I learned where German can take me even if I just have it at GCSE”
