Wilnecote School Celebrates Mathematical Triumph in National Challenge

Wilnecote School is celebrating a wave of success after its students excelled in the prestigious UK Intermediate Maths Challenge. Pupils from Years 9 and 10 demonstrated exceptional mathematical prowess, securing a host of top awards in the nationwide competition.

The challenge, organised by the UK Mathematics Trust, is designed to test students’ problem-solving abilities and logical reasoning. Wilnecote’s students rose to the occasion, showcasing the strength of the school’s mathematics department.

In Year 9, Tia S-J achieved a Silver award and was named “Best in Year,” a testament to her outstanding performance. Hattie S-B also secured a Silver award. Bronze certificates were awarded to Weronika S, Maisie S, Courtney G, Jimi C, and Oliwia S, further highlighting the year group’s collective achievement.

Year 10 students continued the school’s success, with Kevin H earning a Gold award and the title of “Best in Year.” Silver awards were presented to Kai W, Darci B, and Dafydd H-H. The following students were awarded Bronze certificates: Liam F, Finlay S-W, Ryan B, Rosie W, Charlie I, Harry D, Oliver M, Riley C, and Louisa S.

“We are incredibly proud of all our students who participated in the Maths Challenge,” said a Mr McDonald. “Their achievements reflect their hard work and dedication, as well as the excellent teaching provided by our mathematics department. This competition is invaluable in developing the logical thinking and problem-solving skills that are essential for success in GCSEs and beyond.”

The school’s success in the Intermediate Maths Challenge has generated excitement among younger students, who are now looking forward to participating in the Junior Maths Challenge later this year.
