Students and staff welcome Tamworth MP Sarah Edwards to address parking concerns and inspire future careers.
At the start of the new term on Monday 28th April, The Wilnecote School invited Tamworth MP Sarah Edwards to visit as part of its ongoing work to support the local community and enhance student opportunities.
One of the main concerns raised during the visit was the safety of Hockley Road at the end of the school day, when high volumes of traffic and large numbers of students leaving the site create a risk of congestion and potential accidents.

The school is actively exploring ways to ease these pressures and improve conditions for both students and nearby residents.
Sarah Edwards, who was elected as Member of Parliament for Tamworth in October 2023, has a strong background in community engagement and has championed local issues throughout her career.
Ms Edwards also committed to raising the concerns around irresponsible parking with Staffordshire County Council, recognising the importance of long-term support for improving student safety and easing local congestion.
By inviting Ms Edwards, the school sought to build strong partnerships and gain wider support for its efforts to address the issue.

During her visit, Ms Edwards also spent time with the school’s Student Leadership Team, offering valuable advice and encouragement for their future ambitions. Students found the session inspiring and learned a great deal from the experience.
“The Wilnecote School is proud to play an active role in putting our students safety first, as well as supporting our nearby residents and finding ways to make a positive impact. Having Sarah involved in this will make a huge difference,” said Mr Simpson, our Assistant Headteacher for Safeguarding & Attendance.

Building on the success of this visit, the school is hoping to plan a trip to the Houses of Parliament in the near future.
This visit will allow students to see the inner workings of government firsthand, deepen their understanding of how decisions are made, and inspire any future career aspirations they may have in public service, politics, or leadership roles.
Following such a positive and inspiring day, The Wilnecote School is actively seeking further opportunities to connect students with the world beyond the classroom, helping them to broaden their horizons and aspire to future success.
