The Wilnecote School Bids Farewell to Year 11 in Emotional Leavers Day Ceremony

The Wilnecote School was awash with mixed emotions today as the Year 11 class of 2025 marked their official departure with a heartfelt Leavers Day assembly and the time-honoured tradition of shirt signing. The event, a poignant moment for both students and staff, celebrated five years of academic endeavour and personal growth.

The morning commenced with a special assembly in the main hall, where a retrospective slideshow of memories brought smiles and nostalgic sighs from the graduating cohort. Teachers shared personal anecdotes and well wishes, creating a warm atmosphere as the students prepared for the next chapter of their lives. Following the assembly, the school grounds transformed into a colourful spectacle of camaraderie, as students eagerly signed each other’s shirts, transforming them into unique keepsakes filled with inside jokes and heartfelt messages.

Headteacher’s Inspiring Message from the Morning Assembly

Mr. Foskett, the Headteacher, addressed the departing students during the assembly with a powerful analogy, urging them towards future success. “This morning, as I looked out at all your faces, I couldn’t help but feel an immense sense of pride,” he began. “Though I’ve only had the privilege of knowing many of you for two years, witnessing your growth and determination has been truly inspiring. It’s with a heavy heart that we say goodbye, but it’s also with immense excitement for your futures. Today, you stand at a new trailhead. For some, the path ahead might seem clear, for others, it may be winding and uncertain. Remember, the road may not be the same for everyone, but your ambition should always be to climb to the highest point, to achieve your full potential. Be proud of what you’ve achieved, be ambitious in your dreams, be respectful of yourselves and others, and always be kind. These are the tools you’ve honed here, the tools that will help you ascend any mountain you choose.”

Sentiments from Pastoral and Senior Leadership on the Morning’s Events

Miss Shilling, the Year 11 Pastoral Year Leader, visibly moved by the morning’s atmosphere, shared her pride in the students’ journey. “Walking in here this morning, seeing all your smiles and knowing this was our last assembly together, was incredibly emotional,” she stated. “It’s been an absolute privilege to watch you grow from nervous Year 7s into the remarkable young adults you are today. You’ve navigated challenges, celebrated triumphs, and supported one another. I have no doubt that each and every one of you is destined for great things. Don’t be strangers!”

Mr. Herbert, the SLT Year 11 Link, added, “The energy in the hall this morning was palpable. Seeing your faces light up during the photo montage reminded me of all the fantastic moments we’ve shared. The resilience and camaraderie you’ve shown, especially over the last few years, has been truly inspiring. Go out there and make your mark.”

Student Reflections on a Bittersweet Day

The sentiment among the students was a blend of excitement and nostalgia, shared amidst the flurry of shirt signing. One student expressed, “It feels so weird! Like, I’ve been waiting for this day, but now it’s here, I’m actually a bit sad. I’m going to miss my friends so much, but I’m excited for what’s next!”

Another student, covered in ink, enthusiastically declared, “Freedom! But seriously, The Wilnecote School has been great. Made some amazing memories here. Can’t wait for prom, though, that’s going to be epic.”

A thoughtful reflection came from a third student: “It’s the end of an era, isn’t it? I’m so grateful for all the teachers who pushed me. It’s time to spread our wings now.” While a fourth concisely added, “Bring on the summer. And then, whatever happens. It’s been a good ride.”

Prom and Results Day Still to Come

While today marked the official farewell, the celebrations are far from over. The Wilnecote School’s Year 11s will reconvene for their much-anticipated annual prom, this year set to dazzle at the picturesque Statfold Barn.

The ultimate culmination of their five years of hard work will arrive on Thursday, August 21st, when students return to collect their GCSE results. The school eagerly awaits the opportunity to celebrate their academic achievements and witness the fruits of their dedication.
