Students hear from professionals across sectors as part of a new approach to broadening horizons at The Wilnecote School
Today, Year 9 and 10 students at The Wilnecote School took part in an inspiring language careers seminar designed to show how studying a language at GCSE can open doors to a wide range of future opportunities.
The event, delivered through a live webinar, featured speakers from a variety of industries — including the security sector, journalism, and beyond — who shared their personal experiences of how languages have helped shape their careers.
From global communication to cultural understanding, students learned how powerful a second language can be in the modern working world.
As part of the session, students worked through a specially designed booklet that allowed them to record details about each speaker: the languages they spoke, how they learned them, and how these skills had been useful in their jobs.
This reflective activity encouraged students to think critically about how their own language learning could play a role in their futures.
This seminar marks one of the many ways The Wilnecote School is finding new and engaging approaches to help students understand the value of their learning and how it connects to life beyond the classroom.
By hearing directly from professionals, students are better equipped to make informed decisions about their options and pathways ahead.
