Bake Off Brilliance: Students Wow at European Day of Languages!

As part of the annual celebrations for the European Day of Languages (26th September), the Great European Bake Off was back…and better than ever!

In recent years, the MFL team have encouraged students to join in on the fun by joining the European Bake-Off competition. We asked the students to bring their cakes and bakes to us on the morning of the 7th October so that, as has become tradition, we could present them at our open evening.

With over 40 entries, we were blown away by the response, with entries across year groups. Our visitors on open evening were amazed at what the students had produced with most agreeing it was difficult to choose a winner.

“How have they done this?” one parent said. “I want to vote for all of them!” said another. One of our school governors, who was also visiting, was very impressed and said, “What a brilliant way to bring languages and countries to life.”

Although they found it difficult, we did collect the votes from the visitors to the school. In second place was a joint effort from two very talented year 7 students, Lincoln and Jack, whose cake was a showstopper, showing skiers in the Alps. First place was a tie this year, with Charlotte in year 7 and Noah in year 9. Charlotte’s cake depicted a full English breakfast (baked beans and all) whilst Noah had a creative Italian themed cake (with a floating fork!).

As is also traditional, each MFL teacher also chose a favourite. Mrs Hill chose a croissant themed cake by Mille in year 7. Mrs Whiffin chose a Portuguese cheesecake made by Natalia in year 9 and Mrs Turner chose an impressive flamenco dancer cake, made by Isabelle in year 9.

All of our winners received an Amazon voucher, as well as some sweet treats and a certificate.
We would like to thank our students for making this year the best year yet for our Great European Bake Off. We are so very proud of all of those who took part. We have no idea how we can top this next year…. but we will try!
