Vision for Drama at The Wilnecote School
In Drama we focus on exploring and understanding the roles of performers, designers and directors and how they work in different contexts. This is underpinned by the eight performance skills which all students learn in KS3. These are the golden threads which run through the Drama curriculum, being introduced in Year 7 and revisited throughout both KS3 and KS4.
Students create both devised and scripted performances, working as both performers and directors. Students will also explore plays from design perspectives, creating costume, set, lighting and sound designs and developing their understanding of how these design roles contribute to creating a successful performance.
The aims of the Drama curriculum are:
- For students to understand what the different roles of performer, designer and director are and how they work together to create a performance.
- For students to understand how to use their performance skills to create a variety of characters.
- For students to understand how to use genre, style, form, structure and language to create a devised performance.
- For students to understand the process of how to devise a performance from a stimulus.
- For students to understand the process of taking a script from page to stage.
