🇩🇪 European Adventure: Cologne Residential 2025 Delivers Rich Culture and Festive Cheer

Our students have returned having thoroughly enjoyed a hugely successful and enriching four-day residential trip to Cologne, Germany. The trip was a fantastic blend of culture, history, and festive cheer, providing an invaluable opportunity for language and cultural immersion.

Day 1: The Grand Arrival
The adventure began with a long day of travel, including some character-building delays on the motorways through Belgium. Despite the late arrival at the hotel, the students were patient and organised, quickly settling in before enjoying an evening of relaxation and socialising, ensuring everyone was well-rested for the busy days ahead.
Day 2: Chocolate, Culture, and a Colossal Climb
 
Day two was action-packed, starting at the famed Cologne Chocolate Museum where students traced the journey of cocoa and, of course, sampled the delicious fresh chocolate fountain!
The highlight was undoubtedly the visit to the iconic Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom). Our group demonstrated remarkable determination by climbing the 533 steps to the top of the South Tower, earning breathtaking panoramic views of the city. The day concluded with the group experiencing the magical atmosphere of Cologne’s German Christmas Markets, soaking up the sights and festive smells.
Day 3: Aachen
 
The adventure continued with a day trip to the ancient city of Aachen. The students were awe-struck by the Aachen Cathedral—a UNESCO World Heritage site—and its spectacular Byzantine mosaics within the Palatine Chapel, stepping into a thousand years of imperial history. After taking in the sights and scents of another festive market, the group returned to Cologne for one final, festively lit stroll through the markets and shopping streets back to the hostel in time for dinner.
Day 4: Memories Made and Farewells
 
The final morning saw the group pack up, ready to depart Germany with a wealth of new experiences and memories. The students reflected on the cultural immersion, the historical sites explored, and the sheer fun of the Christmas markets, concluding a truly unforgettable residential.
The success of the trip was overwhelmingly due to the exceptional conduct of our students. Their maturity, polite interaction with every one they encountered, and enthusiasm for every activity was exemplary. They were wonderful ambassadors for our school.
