On Thursday, November 23rd, The Wilnecote School proudly hosted its annual Awards Evening, a momentous occasion to recognise and applaud the outstanding achievements of its students throughout the preceding academic year.
Students from Years 8 to 11 were honoured for their remarkable accomplishments. The Academic Achievement awards recognised the top students in each subject, celebrating their dedication and perseverance during the 2022-2023 academic year. Additionally, students who had surpassed their predicted grades and demonstrated exceptional progress in their chosen subjects were also recognised through the Academic Progress awards.
The Wilnecote School’s Awards Evening holds a rich tradition dating back decades and has consistently served as a platform to showcase the exceptional talents of its students in Physical Education and Performing Arts.
In the realm of Performing Arts, Megan Smith captivated the audience with her breathtaking rendition of ‘How Far I Will Go’ from Moana, showing part of her talents that earned her the prestigious Lyndie Palmer Award for Performing Arts. Her performance showcased her exceptional talent, artistry, and passion for the Performing Arts.
In a heartwarming addition to the evening’s festivities, two new awards were introduced to recognise the outstanding achievements of Year 11 students from the previous year. Bryony Treagust and Chloe Dore, who attained the highest GCSE results, were presented with the Achievement Award. Their exceptional academic achievements and dedication to their studies served as an inspiration to their fellow students.
Alongside the top achievers, the Endeavour Award was presented to three remarkable students who persevered through adversity and demonstrated exceptional resilience in completing their GCSEs. Fay Edwards, Brecca Lines, and Danah Smith were recognised for their unwavering determination, unwavering spirit, and ability to overcome challenges.
The pinnacle of the evening was the presentation of the Pride of Wilnecote Award, bestowed upon a student who has consistently gone above and beyond, making a profound and positive impact on The Wilnecote School community. This year, Harley White was selected as the recipient of this prestigious award, a testament to his exceptional character, leadership qualities, and unwavering commitment to making a positive difference in the school.
Mr. Foskett, Headteacher of The Wilnecote School, expressed his admiration for the students’ accomplishments, stating, “The entire evening was truly remarkable and a privilege to be a part of. In preparation for presenting the awards evening, I have really enjoyed researching the events of last year, speaking to students and staff about their standout moments. Students, parents, carers and staff are rightly proud of the ambition and perseverance that was recognised by the many awards presented. The proud atmosphere was palpable after the ceremony had finished, with so many students and parents/carers remaining behind to take photographs of the recipients on stage. I really enjoyed my first Wilnecote School Awards evening as recognising achievement is truly the best part of working with young people in school. I look forward to seeing more of our students showing the ambition to be recognised next year.”
The Wilnecote School takes immense pride in the remarkable achievements of its students, and the Awards Evening serves as a beacon of recognition and celebration of their successes. The school remains committed to providing its students with the best possible education, opportunities, and support, fostering an environment where they can flourish and reach their full potential.
