The Art, Design and Technology faculty here at the Wilnecote school is a large, well-resourced department offering a range of subjects and specialisms for students. Courses are delivered through a team of multi-talented, enthusiastic staff who have a range of knowledge and skills suited to teach multiple specialisms. The ADT faculty are proud of the achievements students make and have vast experience to support them in achieving their very best. We want students to enjoy their time in our faculty, be proud of the outcomes they produce, and have the opportunity to share this with the community.

In the Art department we offer a KS 3 curriculum that exposes students to a range of media, techniques and contextual studies that enable skilful development in the application and articulation of the visual elements. Our curriculum helps to build resilient and independent learners that installs the high expectations for GCSE and readies them in making an informed choice for their options.

At KS 4 we offer Fine Art, Photography, Graphic Communication and 3D Design which we believe is a strong range of specialisms on offer, should a student wish to choose a creative career path.

Vision for History at The Wilnecote School

The visual elements are the foundation of Art education and we see them as tools to continuously build and develop their artistic knowledge and skills. After introducing the elements to students at the beginning of their key stage 3 journey, they are then individually identified and recalled through various experimental and contextual studies.

Along with building skills in a variety of media, we teach students to purposefully record ideas and develop considered, personal outcomes inspired by the exploration of a range of artists, eras and cultures. Over key stage 3 we carefully build students’ ability to analyse artist’s work and be able to articulate their observations. Through them, they understand the various aims and purposes of art, the historical contexts, as well as learning and refining skills and techniques.

The Art curriculum is structured so that students are allowed to embed their learning by revisiting and building upon knowledge and skills throughout their academic years. Flexibility in our curriculum also allows individual teachers time to plan and deliver responses to the need and purpose of art as an ever-developing world, full of new ideas and discoveries, and as a tool to communicate our interpretations of the ever-changing events around us.  Through our day-to-day lesson delivery and expectations, we aim to build independent learners of all abilities, whose resilience rewards them with outcomes they are proud of and want to share with the community. We aim for learners to enjoy their time in the Art department, discover their strengths, and experience and share success.
