Curtains Up: The Wilnecote School Transformed into the Swamp for Shrek The Musical!

Our exceptional Year 8 and Year 9 students recently showcased their entrepreneurial talents on the national stage at the National Careers Challenge Final 2026. Competing against top schools across the country, our teams pitched innovative business designs to expert judges, met high-profile influencers, and celebrated their achievements in a spectacular national ceremony.

Imagine standing in front of a panel of judges, with just three and a half minutes to pitch a business idea you designed from scratch. That is exactly the thrilling challenge two groups of our brilliant Year 8 and Year 9 students faced when they travelled to the National Careers Challenge Final 2026, hosted by The Inspirational Learning Group.

After winning their local rounds, our Year 8 team pitched an innovative, family-friendly airline concept, whilst the Year 9 team showcased a uniquely designed mobile app focused on supporting teenage mental health. Both teams had to present first, setting an incredibly high standard for the rest of the competition.

Away from the intense presentation room, the day was packed with inspiration. Students explored a bustling business exhibition, connected with major employers, and even met entrepreneur and social media influencer Simon Squibb. The event, sponsored by NatWest, wrapped up with a spectacular celebration hosted by Britain’s Got Talent winner Harry Moulding, featuring live music from finalist Sonny Green.

While we did not take home the overall trophy this year, making it to a national final is a monumental achievement. Our students represented the school with immense maturity and creativity, proving that the future of business is bright right here in Tamworth.
