Vision for PSHE at The Wilnecote School

Our PSHE curriculum is embedded to uphold our school values of being Proud, Ambitious, Respectful and Kind individuals. Our ultimate aim is that our students leave not only with a record of strong academic achievement but with skills, knowledge and opportunities to have explore the world in which they are going to leave and be a part of. We want students to approach life with a balance of curiosity, understanding, acceptance and the ability to discuss all manner of different life events, and to be acknowledged as well rounded, resilient and driven individuals.

The PSHE programme follows a five year programme where students explore a range of topics, one half term at a time. These topics all fall within the statutory framework from the DfE, uphold British Values and meet the local, contextual needs of our students and the community in which they live. Students explore a range of Personal, Social, Health and Economic topics and are given the opportunity to question, debate and share ideas from their experiences outside of school. Relationship and Sex Education is embedded within our PSHE curriculum and is delivered carefully and sensitively at specific points in each key stage. Lessons use a variety of teaching strategies and participation models including debates, quizzes, fact finding tasks and mindmaps to name a few. There is a mixture of independent, small group and whole class work and every classroom establishes and maintains their ground rules for discussions, reminding all students of these as

Students leave The Wilnecote School with knowledge of what a healthy lifestyle looks like and how their personal choices can impact their future. Students consider the vast range of opportunities in the wider world and their role within it, as well as the relationships they will develop along the way. They leave able to recognise different types of relationship, especially those that are positive or pose risk. Students evaluate the advantages and dangers of technology in a world that is rapidly changing and within all areas, know how to find and access help and support should they need it both at school and within the wider community.
