From Potatoes to Profits: A Masterclass with Spudman

BTEC Enterprise students had the exciting opportunity to welcome Spudman to the school to share his entrepreneurial journey and business success story. Known for transforming a simple baked potato stall into a nationally recognised brand, Spudman delivered an inspiring and insightful talk that truly resonated with our students.

During the session, he discussed how he built his business through clever brand pairings and collaborations, explaining how aligning with the right products and partnerships strengthened his customer appeal and expanded his reach. He spoke honestly about the challenges he faced—particularly during the pandemic—and how he used social media platforms to completely evolve his marketing strategy. By creating engaging, authentic content, he was able to grow a huge online following, increase footfall to his stall, and significantly boost sales.

Spudman also emphasised the key skills and characteristics needed to drive a business forward: resilience, adaptability, creativity, strong communication, and a willingness to take risks. He encouraged students to embrace change, learn from setbacks, and use digital platforms strategically to build their own brands.

The students were highly engaged throughout, asking thoughtful questions about marketing, branding, and growth strategies. Many were particularly inspired by how a traditional product was transformed into a modern, viral success through innovation and personality. The session not only deepened their understanding of enterprise in action but also sparked excitement about their own entrepreneurial ambitions.

Overall, the experience was both motivational and educational, leaving students energised and more confident about applying enterprise skills in their own future ventures.
