Bake Off Brilliance: Students Wow at European Day of Languages!
Listen to this news story read by Adelina from Year 9
As part of the annual celebrations for the European Day of Languages (26th September), the Great European Bake Off was back…and better than ever!
In recent years, the MFL team have encouraged students to join in on the fun by joining the European Bake-Off competition. We asked the students to bring their cakes and bakes to us on the morning of the 7th October so that, as has become tradition, we could present them at our open evening.

With over 40 entries, we were blown away by the response, with entries across year groups. Our visitors on open evening were amazed at what the students had produced with most agreeing it was difficult to choose a winner.
“How have they done this?” one parent said. “I want to vote for all of them!” said another. One of our school governors, who was also visiting, was very impressed and said, “What a brilliant way to bring languages and countries to life.”
Although they found it difficult, we did collect the votes from the visitors to the school. In second place was a joint effort from two very talented year 7 students, Lincoln and Jack, whose cake was a showstopper, showing skiers in the Alps. First place was a tie this year, with Charlotte in year 7 and Noah in year 9. Charlotte’s cake depicted a full English breakfast (baked beans and all) whilst Noah had a creative Italian themed cake (with a floating fork!).
