“We wanted to give our students more than just a tick-box experience,” explained Miss Julius, Head of Performing Arts at Wilnecote School. ” ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ is a powerful and emotionally charged musical that explores themes relevant to young people today, such as social anxiety, identity, and the impact of social media. We believed it would not only meet the curriculum criteria but also deeply inspire them.”
“It was amazing,” said John P-C, a Year 11 student. “The acting was so real, and the songs were incredible. It made me think about how I portray emotions in my own drama work.”
Another student, Megan S, added, “Seeing it live was so different to watching clips online. You could really feel the energy from the stage. It’s definitely given me ideas for my own performance pieces.”
“We believe that seeing professional theatre is an essential part of their development,” Miss Julius continued. “It allows them to see the power of storytelling and the impact that live performance can have. We hope that ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ will stay with them and inspire them as they prepare for their GCSE exams and beyond.”
