Welcome

As we come to the end of a very long term, I have been impressed with our student’s resilience and determination in their studies. As you will see from this Christmas edition of the Wilnecote Warbler, it has been a very busy term with lots of events and celebrations.

This term we celebrated two of our students, Olivia and Joseph representing our school in a district cooking contest, with Olivia securing a spot in the regional finals of the prestigious Springboard Future Chef competition. All regional finalists receive expert mentorship from a successful professional chef to further develop their culinary skills.

The final few weeks of term have been full of events such as our annual awards evening celebrating achievements of the previous academic year. Over one hundred students and their families were invited to the evening where awards were presented for academic achievement and effort for each subject, as well as individual awards for student of the year.

Last Friday we held our Christmas jumper day whereby students could wear a Christmas jumper in exchange for a food donation as part of our collection for local food bank charities. There was an array of assorted and particularly bright jumpers on show and just over half a ton of food, worth £1500 was collected and now safely in the hands of the food bank in time for Christmas. I was extremely proud of our students and your support for this cause at this time of year when it is so needed.

In the new year I hope to reach out to parents and offer an invitation into school, to walk the corridors with me and see what we are like on a daily basis, see what we are doing well and see the challenges we want to address. It will be an opportunity to ask questions and give feedback, get a feel for the progress we have made and the direction we are going in. After completing my fourth term as Headteacher, I have no doubt that Wilnecote is a very good school, but I also have no doubt we can be even better, so your feedback at this event would be welcomed.

I hope you enjoy reading the final edition of the Warbler for 2024.

Finally, I would like to wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Yours faithfully

Mr Foskett

Headteacher

Celebrating Student Success

At The Wilnecote School, we are incredibly proud of our students and all they do, both inside and outside of school. For example, Oliver Woolgrove is devoted to snowboarding and wakeboarding.

Oliver has been snowboarding since he was about 6 years old, but he started wakeboarding even earlier! If you aren’t sure what wakeboarding is, it is a water sport which involves a person standing on a board, being pulled across the wakes (waves) behind a speedboat. Oliver thinks this is an incredibly fun sport that he loves to take part in.

Our young footballers have been tearing up the pitch, showcasing incredible skill and teamwork. The Year 7s have stormed their way into the county cup quarter-finals, a testament to their dedication and burgeoning talent. The Year 8s have achieved even greater heights, not only winning the district tournament but also securing their place in the county cup’s elite eight.

While the Year 9s narrowly missed out on the district title, their fighting spirit and impressive performances throughout the tournement deserve immense praise. The Year 10s continue their impressive cup run with a 2-1 victory against Erasmus Darwin Academy which booked their place in the County quarter finals , proving they are a force to be reckoned with. And the Year 11s, despite their runner-up position, have demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship and a commitment to excellence.

But the glory doesn’t stop on the football field. Our Year 7 and 8 athletes have been sprinting, jumping, and throwing their way to success at the district indoor athletics championships. These young stars have shown incredible athleticism and a dedication to pushing their limits.

The entire school is buzzing with excitement and pride. These sporting achievements are a reflection of the hard work, dedication, and team spirit that permeates our school community. Congratulations to all our athletes!
