The Wilnecote School Maths Department is celebrating after a bumper term of results in the UK Maths Challenges.

More students than ever participated across different year groups, with many achieving impressive scores.

Year 9 and 10 students built on their success in the Intermediate Maths Challenge by tackling the follow-up Pink Kangaroo (Year 10) and Grey Kangaroo (Year 9) Challenges. Kevin H (Year 9) and Kai W (Year 9) both received Merit awards in the Grey Kangaroo, placing them within the top 25% nationally. Oliver P (Year 10) achieved the top score among Year 10 participants in the Pink Kangaroo Challenge.

The Maths department is thrilled with these fantastic results, a testament to the hard work and dedication of both students and teachers.

Year 7 and 8 students also impressed in the Junior Maths Challenge. Building on last year’s strong performance, many Year 8’s entered the competition for the second time, demonstrating their growing confidence. Special praise goes to several Year 7’s who stepped up at the last minute to replace absent participants. Their willingness and enthusiasm to represent the school did not go unnoticed.

Top performers in Year 7 included George H (who achieved the best score in his year group), Aidan R, and Isabelle E, all receiving Gold awards. Silver awards were presented to Kyen B, Sophie I, Martin J (Year 7), Riley C (top in Year 8), Caitlin C, Courtney G, Hattie S-B, and Nerissa Y (Year 8). A significant number of students also secured Bronze awards, placing them within the top 50% nationally.

The Maths department is incredibly proud of all students who participated and achieved fantastic results. These accomplishments demonstrate a strong foundation in maths and bode well for their future studies.
