The department itself is greatly supportive, both personally and professionally; it’s a great team to work in.
I have worked for The Wilnecote School since 2020, when I joined the school as a Teach First trainee. Moving nearly 200 miles to begin a new career during a global pandemic was evidently stressful, but the support network at the school is fantastic and really helped me feel valued and start to build my career. The department itself is greatly supportive, both personally and professionally; it’s a great team to work in.
Due to the opportunities available, I have managed to advance my career quite quickly within the department, and have been able to explore my love of Shakespeare through CPD with the RSC.
The students at Wilnecote are enthusiastic and have a strong interest in extra-curricular activities, both in school and in the community. They are creative with their interdisciplinary knowledge and are able to set themselves challenging but achievable targets both academically and personally. The relationship between staff and students is good-humoured and contributes well to the learning environment.
As soon as I arrived, I was welcomed and supported by both the Maths department as well as the wider support network, which reaches out beyond teaching staff.
After living and teaching abroad for a few years, I started teaching at The Wilnecote School in 2021, having completed my teacher training here the previous year.
As soon as I arrived, I was welcomed and supported by both the Maths department as well as the wider support network, which reaches out beyond teaching staff. This support has driven me to develop both myself as a teacher, but also develop the skills needed to progress within the school itself. I am passionate about Maths, now leading the development of KS4 Maths alongside the head of department.
The passion I have for Maths is what I believe ignites something in all students I teach, whether they love Maths or hate it, whether they find it easy or difficult. I am always willing and ready to support the students who enter my classroom.
For some of those students who share that passion for Maths, I have led the UK Maths challenge since 2022-23. Some of these students have not only competed but have also been extremely successful in both the Junior and Intermediate challenges. This highlights the way Maths can help students feel proud of their ability in the subject.
